I found this mix of vintage and faux vintage band posters on pinterest that I liked before the lecture on tuesday morning, funny how I don't like many of them anymore. I think I've come to realise looking though many examples of posters online and even in the lecture the main thing to do is make a striking image, either with illustration or just with text. At the end of the day none of them look the same but they draw in attention. FAKE EAGLES"Fake Eagles" sounds to me very Indie Folk/Rock. Lucky for me this is my favourite genre of music!
So yes, I am going to be looking at what I enjoy, getting an idea of mood, colour, style etc. First idea for colours and themeI made analogue texturesAfter making the thumbnails I watched through all Dwayne's videos and a couple on youtube, but I also did get my brother to help explain some technical aspects. I tried my best to work as quickly and as loosely as I could with the different mediums, I used different papers as support for my work, but unfortunately wasn't able to find artists to compare my work to. I tried to plan out some ideas but I was not very inspired by any of them so I made a couple attempts.
Their names are Twigs, Floof, Shaggy and Floppy Flops respectively. Things I've learned looking at work by Lucinda Rogers is that the occasional thick/bold line can bring a lot of balance to an image. As you can see I tried to do so in my self portrait, and in the drawing of my dog Atticus.
I used in the Owl drawing a variety of different techniques and cross-hatchings. |
